Gregorys Sports and Musical Equipment had its genesis as a part time tennis coaching activity, registered as Gregory’s Tennis Services on 9th March 1982. Initially home based, a retail premises at 13 Rutherglen Road Newborough was rented in 1983, initially dealing mainly in tennis products but gradually diversifying to meet market demands.

A larger facility, at 2-10 Rutherglen Road, was purchased early in 1986. After extensive renovations and fitting out work, trading commenced at this venue in August 1986. To reflect the steadily broadening nature of the business, Gregory’s GTS Sports was registered in November 1987. Family members contributed much to the retail operations until proprietor Brian Gregory retired from the power industry and commenced full time management of the business from late 1989.

For a few years, branch stores were operated in Moe, Drouin & Koo Wee Rup but high bank interest rates and increased competition compelled the business to refocus on operation of its Newborough home base. For the following decade, very strong demand for servicing the sport of Lawn Bowls became the core activity of the business. Demands for lawn bowls products declined, for a variety of reasons, but the demise of several music stores in the region presented a new opportunity and from 2003 a steady growth in our Music Department commenced. For the past six years it has generated over 60% of our sales income. This has been despite competition from internet purchasing and cheaper, but generally low quality, music equipment from some large chain store groups. The name of Gregorys Sports & Music Equipment was registered in June 2005 to better reflect the current nature of the business.

A small Gallery Café facility was established around the year 2000. This, together with a small vineyard and hobby winery, has given the premises and adjoining garden a somewhat unique and pleasant ambience.

We are currently reinvigorating our marketing programs and are encouraged by growth in our traditional product area such as Tennis, Cricket, Lawn Bowls, Hockey, Darts, Billiards, Fishing Gear, etc. Despite our current venture into Facebook, Google and this Web Page, we are essentially committed to an “In Store” sales approach, wherein we can ensure that the customer has every opportunity to ensure that products have optimum suitability to needs.
